International Women's Day Festival 2020
Days until International Women's Day 2020
On 9th March 2019, the Fylde Coast experienced its first International Women’s Day Festival, held at Blackpool Sixth Form College. Developed and facilitated by The Washington Group and partners, the Festival aimed to inspire participants by addressing gender parity and raising the aspirations of 250 young women aged between 10 -19 who attended schools from the Fylde coast.
What the festival achieved went much deeper than offering participants the opportunity to explore careers and pathways available to them, it provided young women with a place to develop their knowledge and the confidence to explore what is available to them in their life choices and develop their social mobility.
The Festival aimed to:
- Develop opportunities for young women through more diverse experiences i.e, sport, the environment, STEM, social welfare, entrepreneurship and volunteering etc.
- Offer work experience and opportunities from a more diverse business and community sector
- Offer a link to young women to reduce social isolation and support mental health issues which included: volunteering, peer mentoring, engaging in participation activities, and developing youth led groups.
So what is happening in 2020!
On Saturday 7th March 2020 we are coming back to Blackpool 6th Form, with a bigger and brighter Festival, developing and enhancing the 2019 Festival, based on the amazing feedback. We have 30 role models each with their own unique story to tell. The role models are our Living Libraries. Each of their stories will be linked to a particular field and displayed all day for people to read their journey.

International Women’s Day 2020 campaign theme:
An equal world is an enabled world.
Individually, we’re all responsible for our own thoughts and actions – all day, every day.
We can actively choose to challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, improve situations and celebrate women’s achievements.
Collectively, each one of us can help create a gender equal world.
Let’s all be #EachforEqual.
