International Men’s Day 2021

Following on from the last two successful International Men’s Day events held in 2019 and 2020, The Washington Group agreed with key partners to ensure that this day continues to be recognised on the Fylde Coast.

TWG’s International Men’s Day 2021 supported by sponsorship from Blackpool Transport and The Rank Foundation, will be held virtually on Saturday 20th of November.

The three core themes for International Men’s Day in the UK 2021 are:

1.     Making a positive difference to the wellbeing and lives of men and boys.

2.   Raising awareness and/or funds for charities supporting men and boys’ wellbeing.

3.   Promoting a positive conversation about men, manhood and masculinity.

The TWG event will be an opportunity to:

  • Raise awareness of men’s health and well-being,
  • Support how to be resilient.
  • Explore how to call out positive and diverse role models.

There will be 50 young men aged between 14-18 from across the Fylde coast attending. Each young man will receive a IMD resource bag filled with a variety of well being items, treats and information.

Each group of young men will be undertaking three awareness missions prior to the event,  involving:

Research about current mental health & well being provision Exploring  important men’s themes.

Finally each group will be producing a piece of artwork, poetry, graffiti and/or a short video.

The final mission is supported by Liberty’s Hotel, Blackpool.

We are once again working in partnership with Empowerment to raise awareness of the needs of young men across the Fylde Coast.

Empowerment, a Blackpool based charity is delighted to be supporting ‘The Washington Group’s’ International Men’s Day Event on 20th November 2021. Empowerment is passionate about removing the stigma from our society that stops men being able to talk about their own mental illness and get the help they need. International Men’s Day is a great opportunity to put men’s mental health in the spotlight, so that bit by bit we remove the barriers which stop men feeling confident to reach out for support with their mental illness. Empowerment’s project, Elliot’s Place will empower young men to share their struggles with their mental illness with other young men who have been through similar experiences. Together we will make the lives of men experiencing mental illness so much better, and we are grateful to The Washington Group for organising this great event. Mike Crowther CEO Empowerment
